Sharing the V2SDF Project – How Vocational Education in Burundi is Fighting Deforestation with Innovation
Last week, from December 3rd to 5th, our school had the distinct honor of participating in a prestigious national workshop in Türkiye, focused on the critical intersection of digitalisation and sustainability. It was a dynamic forum filled with inspiring ideas, innovative strategies, and a shared commitment to building a better future.
Among the many valuable exchanges, we were exceptionally proud to present an initiative close to our hearts: the V2SDF – Vet To Stop Deforestation project.
This project embodies the very essence of the workshop's themes. V2SDF tackles one of our planet's most pressing environmental challenges—deforestation—by empowering communities through vocational education and training (VET) in Burundi.
How does it work?
The project equips local vocational students and communities with the skills to manufacture and utilize solar cookers . By providing a clean, sustainable alternative to wood and charcoal for cooking, the project directly reduces the pressure on Burundi's vital forests. This is not just about conservation; it's about creating tangible, scalable solutions that address both ecological sustainability and socio-economic development.
At the workshop, we highlighted how digital tools play a key role in this project—from sharing technical designs and training modules. It's a powerful example of how digitalisation can amplify and accelerate sustainable practices on the ground.
Presenting V2SDF on a national stage in Türkiye was more than just sharing a project; it was about connecting visions. It demonstrated how localized, vocational training can have a global impact, and how integrating technology with practical skills is crucial for sustainable development.
We returned enriched with new insights, partnerships, and an even stronger conviction that education is the most powerful tool for change. A heartfelt thank you to the organizers and all the brilliant participants at the workshop.
The fight against deforestation continues, and through projects like V2SDF, we are proving that empowered communities, armed with the right skills and sustainable technologies, can be the most effective guardians of our planet.
